PRESS RELEASE

Women in ETFs launches the Speaker’s Bureau: Creating a dynamic pipeline of public speakers for the ETF industry

New York, NY, August 1, 2018:   Women in ETFs (WE) is launching the WE Speaker’s Bureau. WE is a thriving organization, supporting the success of women in the global ETF industry. The WE Speaker’s Bureau is aimed at helping event organizers and media outlets reflect the diverse talent and expertise in today’s ETF industry.

WE’s speaker’s bureau’s goals are modest overall but ambitious given current conditions: increase women’s representation among presenters at industry conferences to 25% within the next 18 months. Major ETF conference organizers, Inside ETFs, Morningstar and IMN, have endorsed and partnered with WE on the Speaker’s Bureau initiative.

The WE speaker’s bureau is also working to increase women’s representation in the financial media.

  INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY 2018

RING THE BELL FOR GENDER EQUALITY

For the 4th year, 65 stock exchanges around the world collaborated to “Ring the Bell for Gender Equality” in celebration of International Women’s Day 2018 (March 8th).

The events were a partnership between Women in ETFs, UN Global Compact, UN Women, Sustainable Stock Exchanges (SSE) Initiative, IFC, World Federation of Exchanges.

As part of the events, participants were encouraged to make commitments to improve gender equality in their markets, such as signing the Women’s Empowerment Principles, improving diversity in senior management and on boards, developing more gender-friendly policies, developing a gender-themed investment product, or improving transparency on gender policies and practices.

Out of the 65 bell ringing celebrations that took place globally from March 5th - 27th, Women in ETFs was the lead partner on 18 events. These Bell Ringing events welcomed WE leadership teams, corporate sponsors, and members, with host speakers presenting the business case for women’s economic empowerment.

  WE WEBCAST REPLAY

  #PRESSFORPROGRESS
  Investor Action for Gender Equality

Each year, International Women’s Day serves as an opportunity to commemorate the women’s rights movement and to accelerate implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 agenda, specifically goal 5 “achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls” and goal 4 “ensure inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning.”

The theme for this year, which was celebrated on March 8th, was #pressforprogress.

  • How are countries around the world advancing towards gender parity on corporate boards?
  • What are the actions investors can take and are taking in pressing for progress within their asset allocation and amongst portfolio companies?

We invite you to listen to the replay of this conversation on these topics from experts in the field.
