WE EMEA | ZURICH | Bell Ringing Ceremony at the SIX Swiss Exchange

On 8 March 2018, SIX Swiss Exchange acted as a host for the fourth bell ringing of Women in ETFs (WE). The event was part of a global bell ringing in celebration of International Women's Day. 65 stock exchanges around the world joined the UN Global Compact, Sustainable Stock Exchange Initiative, UN Women, the International Finance Corporation, World Federation of Exchanges, and Women in ETFs in raising awareness about the importance of gender equality to both business and sustainable development. SIX Swiss Exchange is proud to host this event for the fourth time in a sequence.

Gender equality and its added value for the economy was the focus of the event. Karin Russell, Head ETF, Indexing & Smart Beta Sales at Amundi, and Head Switzerland Women in ETFs, welcomed 45 dedicated guests. Antonio Hautle, Executive Director at Global Compact Network Switzerland, pointed out what companies are doing to promote gender equality and how they report on this in the context of the UN Global Compact. Prof. Dr. Sita Mazumder, Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, reported on gender stereotypes in the 21st century and how we deal with it in everyday life. The following panel discussed how the financial industry can benefit from gender diversity. Prof. Dr. Sita Mazumder, Dr. Anja Hochberg, Head of Global Investment Solutions and Member of the Global Investment Committee, Credit Suisse, and Thomas Zeeb, Head of Securities & Exchanges, SIX Group, participated in the inspiring debate.

Deborah Yang and Carmen Gonzalez Calatayud, co-Presidents of WE EMEA, explain: "There is a natural synergy for WE to celebrate International Women's Day with bell ringings. Our mission is to create opportunities for professional advancement of women by expanding connections among women and men in the ETF industry."

Women in ETFs was founded in January 2014. Today, the organization is visible in 5 continents across 11 countries and counts already close to 4,000 members globally (incl. 15% men). Its objective is to build a global network of women in the ETF industry with the goal to further the careers of women today by leveraging their collective skills and ambitions.
