Since our last update, Women in ETFs continues to have momentous accomplishments and tremendous visibility though flagship events including: 1st Annual WE Breakfast at the Inside ETFs Conference in Montreal and 23rd IMN Global Indexing & ETFs Conference in Dana Point, CA. We are also excited by the launch of WE Speaker’s Bureau, which aims to increase representation and create a dynamic pipeline of female public speakers from the ETF industry and financial media. WE is a thriving organization committed to furthering the careers of women, and today, WE has nearly 4,300 members worldwide in Asia Pacific, Canada, EMEA and the US. This milestone clearly represents a tremendous interest in both women and men to expand and support of the advancement of women in our industry.
WE BREAKFAST AT INSIDE ETFs CANADA
The highly anticipated WE Inside ETFs Breakfast made its debut in Montreal at Inside ETFs Canada. Our attendees joined us for an exciting networking opportunity and interactive panel discussion on women’s leadership and advancement to top senior executive positions. We would like to thank Inside ETFs for hosting the event, as well our Corporate Sponsors that made this event and others possible. We would also like to recognize our renowned speakers – Florence Narine, Senior VP of AGF Investments; Atul Tiwari, Managing Director of Vanguard Investments Canada; Erika Toth, VP of BMO ETFs; as well as our moderator Clare O’Hara, Wealth Management Reporter of The Globe and Mail – for leading a discussion on the topic of women’s advancement to the C-suite.
PANEL AT THE IMN GLOBAL INDEXING & ETFs CONFERENCE
The WE “Addressing the Gender Cap – A Call to Action” Panel prevailed as one of the key themes throughout the IMN ETFs conference. Our attendees discussed the proven positive impact of hiring more female financial advisors and promoting improved maternity leave policies on businesses. We would like to acknowledge our notorious panelists – Linda Zhang, CEO and Founder of Purview Investments; Deborah Fuhr, Managing Partner and Founder of ETFGI; as well as our moderator Jayni Kosoff, Managing Director of FTSE Russell – for these exciting conversations that extended far beyond the WE Panel that addressed the gender gap.
Throughout the year, we have seen an impressive growth in participation amongst our local members that expanded previous enthusiasm within our regional chapters.
In the US, WE New York co-hosted with the Columbia Women’s Business Society the “Introduction to ETFs and the Future of Investing” event where a panel of experienced women from BlackRock, Oppenheimer, Jane Street and Tradeweb, discussed their experiences in the changing investment landscape space.
WE Philadelphia organized a panel discussion and networking event hosted by Janney’s Women Interactive Network where experts from Vanguard, Reality Shares and Janney’s Investment Strategy Group discussed ETFs and volatility.
WE EMEA hosted a lively debate on ESG Diversity Funds in London. The event started with welcoming remarks by Carmen Gonzalez-Calatayud, WE EMEA Co-Head & Senior Product Specialist of HSBC, followed by the panel discussion led by experts from MSCI, JP Morgan and SSGA where panelists discussed the importance of ESG and its contribution to gender diversity.
WE LAUNCHES THE SPEAKER’S BUREAU
WE is committed to support the success of women in the global ETF industry and increase women’s representation in the financial media. Therefore, on August 1, WE launched the WE Speaker’s Bureau to help event organizers and media outlets reflect the diverse talent and expertise in today’s ETF industry; this to increase women’s representation among presenters at industry conference to 25% within the next 18 months.
Major ETF conference organizers, including Inside ETFs, Morningstar and IMN, have endorsed and partnered with WE on the Speaker’s Bureau initiative to provide access to well-qualified women speakers and shrink the gender gap at industry events and in the financial media.
A special thanks to everyone, including our Corporate Sponsors, for volunteering your time to SUPPORT, CONNECT and INSPIRE women across the ETF community!
